SPRING SALMON ARE HERE! Let’s go fishing!

Call now to reserve your seats for the best eating fish available! Spring Kings are amazing table fair with all of the oils and fats (omegas). Now is the time to get out and get some fresh fish for the BBQ!

I am fishing the Columbia River starting at the end of March and the first 8 days of April, then switching over to the WILLAMETTE RIVER for a couple weeks where we will have a TWO FISH PER PERSON LIMIT.

NEW TO THIS YEAR I will be adding in a 3 week period of fishing at the mouth of the WIND RIVER where the Spring Chinook fishing is top notch! This fishery is just above Bonneville dam in the Columbia River gorge. If you have fished with me over the years and want to check out a new fishery then I highly recommend coming out for this one! I will have one day WA Licenses available on the boat for $19 each per person!

To catch these awesome fish we will be using several different techniques including backtrolling, forward trolling and back bouncing with a variety of baits including salmon eggs, sand shrimp, prawns, coon shrimp, herring and spinners. I provide everything you need to catch these beauties, you just need to bring whatever you want to eat and drink for the day and your license/tag. I will keep your fish on ice on the boat and at the end of the day I will cut and bag them for you. If you have any questions or if you would to book a trip feel free to call/email/text anytime…..503-310-5724 or benparkerfishing@gmail.com

It’s that time of year again! Put on your warm gear and let’s go chase some Steelhead.

Come fish with me on the beautiful Clackamas River just about 20 minutes south of downtown Portland OR. I leave from Carver Park off of Springwater Rd. I run these trips out of my 26’5″ jet sled which makes it very easy to run up or down river and stay on top of where the fish are.

I provide top of the line Gloomis rods with Shimano reels for ease of use and ideal sensitivity to catch these skyrocketing, line peeling chrome bullets. The fish we catch will be a mixed bag of Hatchery fish and Wild fish. The hatchery fish you get to take home to the BBQ and the wild fish we will keep on the boat in the livewell until we meet up with the fish & wildlife biologist and then we will transfer them over to them. The biologist then will take these wild fish to the Clackamas river hatchery and hold them until they are ready to spawn in late March/April. This is known as the Broodstock Program. By using wild fish genetics we get a much stronger run of fish and much larger fish.

I will be running Winter Steelhead trips starting in December and running thru the end of March. I run 5hr trips for $200 per person (minimum 3 people, up to 6) and 8hr trips for $275 per person (minimum 2 people, up to 6) GIVE ME A CALL, TEXT OR EMAIL 503-310-5724 OR benparkerfishing@gmail.com or book here.

P.S I have a big heater on the boat and I have some warm gear that you can borrow if you need it.

July Is Finally Here! Time to Smash Some Ocean Fish!

This is the time of the year I highly recommend coming out fishing! The ocean is full of fish! These trips are action packed with multiple hook ups at a time and getting the most bang for your buck! We leave from Hammond Marina out of Hammond Oregon and head out to the Salmon grounds, targeting Coho and King Salmon until we get our limits(2 per person). Then once we have our limit of salmon we run back in and fish the sunken jetty for Lingcod, Sea Bass, Cabezon and Greenling (limits are 2 Lingcod and 5 bottom fish per person). Then after all the fish catching is done for the finale we go and pull the dungeness crab pots (limit 12 per person) before heading back in to take care of the days harvest.

Coho Opener Out of Hammond or This Year on June 22nd

Once we get back in, there is a few options as far as taking care of the catch. We will have the crab cooked immediately at the marina store and I will clean them and bag them for you. While the crab are cooking I will cut up and bag the fish for you, unless you want to have your fish vacuum sealed and then we will have the marina store cut and pack them for you(extra cost). These trips are great for getting all the variations for a true captains platter and for filling the freezer!

Don’t like the ocean?! The Lower Columbia has world class Sturgeon fishing in the month of July. This is a Catch and Release fishery that will absolutely wear you out. We target these fish in 2-8ft of water and almost every one of them instantly explodes out of the water as soon as you set the hook! If you’re looking to catch monster fish on a catch and release fishery then look no further! These fish average 4-5ft and 6-10ft is almost daily!

Spring Chinook Fishing: When and Where (March-June)

We are currently fishing for Spring Chinook and will be on into June. We will be fishing on the Columbia River until it closes in early April plus any possible extensions that we may get further into April. After that we will be moving to the Willamette River. The Columbia River is expected to get back over 120k Spring Chinook and the Willamette River is expected to get about 50k back for the Spring of 2024. The Columbia typically re opens in May after enough fish have went over Bonneville dam to make it up to spawn. We have great fishing opportunities from now into June for Spring Chinook. When we fish the Columbia we typically fish near the Portland Oregon airport or up near Bonneville dam. When we fish the Willamette we typically fish in Oregon city or a little further down near Sellwood on into downtown Portland OR.

Spring Chinook Methods

When fishing for Spring Chinook we use a variety of methods. We “forward troll” with flashers and bait which can be very effective because we cover a lot of water and go to the fish. We “Back troll” using a diver with a bait of Salmon eggs. This can be very effective once the fish are stacking up in the system and the water temperatures are ideal. Lastly we “anchor” fish or Still fish…this is a sit back drink coffee and tell stories type of fishing. We have certain proven spots in travel lanes of these fish that are typically very productive. The Anchoring method is used more into late May and June when the fish are more channeled into the travel lanes.

Why Spring Chinook?

Pacific Northwest Spring chinook are hands down the best eating fish out of all the Salmon in the world. They are full of omega 3’s and protein that are great for your body and taste amazing. These fish are right out of the ocean and as bright and as fresh as you can get. You can only purchase Spring Chinook at specialty markets or fish markets. They often sell for over $50/lb! Other salmon will sell for $10-$15/lb so that tells you how sought after and amazing they are! Whether you cook them on the BBQ or in the oven they are unbelievably tasty!

When fishing for Springers you generally have to work harder to catch them than the Summer or Fall chinook, but when you get them it is all worth it! If I had to pick my favorite fish to catch it is most definitely Springers. While being a bit harder to catch, the satisfaction of knowing what’s for dinner is totally worth the wait!

Call text or email now and don’t miss out! 503-310-5724 or benparkerfishing@gmail.com

P.S I have days available sometimes as soon as then next day so don’t hesitate to call and check. If I can’t get you out on the day you’re looking for I work with several of the local guides that I can refer you to!

2024 Spring Chinook, Summer Chinook, Fall Chinook

Here is my 2024 fishing schedule for Oregon. I will update this with the different seasons as they roll around.

Spring Salmon (April/May)

This year will be a great year on the Willamette and Columbia! We have great numbers of fish coming back this spring season on the Willamette and then rolling right into our killer Summer Chinook run on the Columbia. We have a great snowpack this year which will make the water conditions stay good in the Willamette well into May and June and the Columbia all summer and fall. I will be fishing the Oregon City area backtrolling with Salmon eggs, sand shrimp and prawns. I will keep your fish on ice and at the end of each trip I will cut up and bag any fish we have caught so it’s ready for the BBQ! These Spring and Summer chinooks are the best eating Salmon out of all Salmon anywhere in the world! Call, text or email anytime to book your day and let’s make it happen! benparkerfishing@gmail.com or 503-310-5724

Summer Chinook (late May/June/early July)

I will be fishing up in the beautiful Columbia river gorge near Bonneville dam on the Columbia River. For these monsters we will be anchor fishing in the fast water using plugs and spinners. These are the hardest most violent takedowns you will ever get from a king Salmon! Most average in the 15-25lb range but every year there is some caught over 40lbs! I use the best gear money can buy to ensure the best fight possible and to make sure they get into the boat and onto your BBQ! Call, text or email anytime to book your day and let’s make it happen! benparkerfishing@gmail.com or 503-310-5724

Chinook and Coho Salmon (July-October)

Starting in July we will be in the ocean chasing Coho and chinooks. This is a trolling fishery where the action is fast and crazy! We have doubles, triples and even quadruples some days! A typical day we run out to where the Salmon are and get our boat limit of them, as soon as that happens we put the Salmon gear away and get out the bottom fishing gear and start jigging for Seabass, Lingcod, Cabezon and Sea Trout. Once we fill up our boat limit of those then we go pull in the Dungeness crab traps on our way back in. This trip is Awesome and your coolers will be stuffed with fresh fillets and cooked crab!

Bouy 10 (August)

We will be fishing in the river and chasing the Big kings that will be piling thru on every tide. This is a good time to chase that fish of a lifetime that is fresh right out of the ocean and ready to wear you out with the battle of your life! In both July and August my boat will be moored at the Hammond Marina which is about 10min west of downtown Astoria. At the marina there is a fish processing area and they will also cook the crabs and vacuum seal your fillets if you wish, for an extra charge. August is great weather and great fishing. Bring the family out or a group of friends and let’s go fill up your coolers and make some memories! Call, text or email anytime! benparkerfishing@gmail.com or 503-310-5724

Fall Chinook Upriver (September/October)

I will start fishing below Bonneville Dam in the Columbia River Gorge at the beginning of September. We will start out trolling with pro troll flashers, VIP spinners, superbaits and spinfish. This is a very productive time of year and typically has a lot of action throughout the day. These fish average 15-25lbs with the biggest being up into the 40’s. This year it sounds like we will get to fish below the dam for the first couple weeks of September and then they will reassess the run size and see whether to leave it open or close it. As soon as it closes we will move up to the MOUTH OF THE KLICKITAT RIVER.

This is my favorite fishery of the year. We will be “hover” fishing using Salmon Eggs and sandshrimp for bait. This is all hands on and so much fun I wish we could do it all year! You will be holding the rod and waiting for the bite and when it happens you set the hook and start reeling! Most days we get doubles and triples and catch plenty of fish for our limits. We will also troll some plugs for coho as the season gets later. We can even keep wild coho up there which is a great added bonus! Call, text or email anytime and let’s fill those coolers and make some memories! benparkerfishing@gmail.com or 503-310-5724

I run 5hr trips for $200 per person (minimum 3 people, up to 6) and 8hr trips for $250 per person (minimum 2 people, up to 6) GIVE ME A CALL, TEXT OR EMAIL 503-310-5724 OR benparkerfishing@gmail.com or book here.

P.S I have a big heater on the boat and I have some warm gear that you can borrow if you need it.

SPRING SALMON-(April/May)

This year will be a great year on the Willamette and Columbia! We have great numbers of fish coming back this spring season on the Willamette and then rolling right into a monster Summer Chinook run on the Columbia. We have a killer snow pack this year which will make the water conditions stay good in the Willamette well into May and June and the Columbia all summer and fall. Both of these (spring/summer) runs will be a two fish limit per person on hatchery fish. I will be fishing the Oregon City area backtrolling with Salmon eggs, sand shrimp and prawns. I will keep your fish on ice and at the end of each trip I will cut up and bag any fish we have caught so it’s ready for the BBQ!
SUMMER CHINOOK-(late May/June/early July)

FALL CHINOOK UPRIVER(September/October)

I will start fishing below Bonneville dam in the Columbia River Gorge at the beginning of September. We will start out trolling with pro troll flashers, VIP spinners, superbaits and spinfish. This is a very productive time of year and typically has a lot of action throughout the day. These fish average 15-25lbs with the biggest being up into the 40’s. This year it sounds like we will get to fish below the dam for the first couple weeks of September and then they will reassess the run size and see whether to leave it open or close it. As soon as it closes we will move up to the MOUTH OF THE KLICKITAT RIVER….this is my favorite fishery of the year. We will be “hover” fishing using Salmon Eggs and sand shrimp for bait.
