Dungeness Crab Fishing
I harvest Dungeness Crab near the mouth of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean jetty. This is an optional add-on to fishing trips, not a standalone trip for crab.
The mouth of the Columbia River and nearby Pacific Ocean waters are among the most productive Dungeness crab waters on the Oregon coast. I fish out of Hammond, at the river up to the mouth and the jetty, where the deep estuary and the nearshore ocean both hold strong numbers of hard, heavy Dungeness. It is the crab Oregon is known for: sweet, dense, and worth the trip, and it lives right in the water I run.
While I do not run standalone crab charters, I almost always include it as part of other fishing trips, especially bottom fishing trips.
Pull the pots at the end of the trip, set for the next day. You go home with a cooler of salmon, bottomfish fillets, and fresh Dungeness from the same morning on the water.
